Pope John Paul II was an exceptional man, who understood contemporary issues and who shepherded the Church into its third millennium. He was the greatest resident of Cracow. Lived there for nearly 40 years, until assumption of the papacy. He survived the Nazi occupation during World War II and took a secret teaching during the war.

During your tour, around this strongly religious country, you will visit places of deep spiritual devotion such as: Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, Lagiewniki, Czestochowa, Ludzmierz and Gora Sw. Anny.

Day 1

CRACOW

Arrival at Cracow airport and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon take a walk around the Main Square, Europe’s largest and most beautiful town square. See the famous Sukiennice Cloth Hall, St. Mary’s Church and the many historic townhouses, palaces and churches.

Before we enjoy dinner, you will be showed a presentation biography of Pope John Paul II.

Attend the Holy Mass at Franciscan Church, where Karol Wojtyla had “his own” bench.

Day 2

CRACOW

In the morning visit places associated with John Paul II. First stop at the Bishop’s Palace known as “Papal Window.” This is a place, where Karol Wojtyla used to live when he was a bishop of Cracow. When he became a pope, from the “Papal Window” he greeted crowds of pilgrims. Next admire the beautiful, baroque church, St. Florian ‘s Church, which was close to his heart. Your next stop will be Church of St. Francis of Assisi, which was the Holy Father favourite place for praying and meditation.

Then walk towards a charming street, leading to the Wawel Hill, Kanoniczna Street, where he lived in a tiny room. Afterwards stop at The Royal Cathedral on Wawel Hill, where in the crypt of St. Leonard, Karol Wojtyla conducted his first service. Jagiellonian University, where he began his studies in 1938, and during the World War II took a secret teaching,  will be our last stop, before we leave to Auschwitz-Birkenau, a former Nazi concentration camp.

Day 3

CRACOW – KALWARIA ZEBRZYDOWSKA – WADOWICE –  CRACOW

Take a drive to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, known as Polish Calvary Hill, a huge monastery with beautiful located Stations of the Cross and listed on UNESCO heritage site. After the Kalwaria Zebrzydowska sightseeing we will go straight to Wadowice, Karol Wojtyla’s hometown. We will visit the house, where he spent his childhood and later we will enjoy the favourite Pope’s cream cake.

Day 4

CRACOW – ZAKOPANE – CRACOW

Today we will head towards Zakopane and the Tatras, to which John Paul II  has been attached since his youth. On our way we will stop at Ludzmierz, where Sanctuary of Our Lady Queen of Podhale is located. With its origins reaching the 13th century, Ludzmierz is the oldest parish in Podhale.

In Zakopane take a cable car to the nearby mountaintop of Gubalowka for a thrilling panoramic view. It is here that he hiked the many wooded trails. Learn about his love of the outdoors, his excellent athletic ability (hiking, skiing, etc.) and his love of theatre and poetry. Stop by the Sanctuary of the Virgin Mary of Fatima.

Day 5

CRACOW – LAGIEWNIKI – CZESTOCHOWA

In the morning we will depart for Lagiewniki, the final resting place of St. Faustina.

We will visit the Sanctuary, where we admire the image of Merciful Jesus and visit St. Faustina’s convent chapel, the Shrine of Divine Mercy and St. Faustina’s Tomb. The highlight of our visit in Lagiewniki is John Paul II Center, where the relics of the Holy Father are presented in the Church of the Blessed John Paul II.

Afterwards, departure to the Sanctuary of Jasna Gora, the capital of Polish Catholic Church and the main pilgrimage destination of Poland. See the famous, miraculous Painting of Black Madonna, visit the Treasury Room with the impressive collection of many precious gifts received by the monastery throughout the ages, including the Golden Rose given by Pope John Paul II.

Day 6

GORA SW.ANNY – PIEKARY SLASKIE – WROCLAW

Today we leave to Wroclaw, which  is one of the oldest and one of the most beautiful Polish cities. On our way, we will stop at St. Anna Mountain (Gora Sw. Anny), visited by John Paul in 1983. This fascinating site contains over 40 Calvary Chapels dating from the early 18th Century, and a special statue of Saint Anne.

Afterwards we drive to Piekary Slaskie. The Basilica of St Mary and St Bartholomew with the Piekary Calvary is one of the most famous Shrines in Poland. The church houses the painting of Our Lady of Social Justice and Love. Krakow Bishop Karol Wojtyla, came to Piekary nearly every year starting in 1965, he preached homilies and taught on work and its dignity and the rights of workers. After he became Pope, he sent telegrams, letters and recorded messages.

 

Day 7

WROCLAW – BARDO – WAMBIERZYCE – WROCLAW

In the morning, drive to Bardo, where we will visit a baroque basilica of the Redemptorist Fathers, which on the main altar stands the Romanesque statue of the Madonna with Child. The history of the statue of Our Lady here goes back to the 13th Century. Tradition tells that the Blessed Mother appeared to a young man and gave him the statue with the instructions that a chapel should be built here in her honour.

Afterwards, drive to Wambierzyce, where we visit Basilica of Our Lady of Wambierzyce , the largest Calvary in Poland, and one of the largest in Europe.

Day 8

WROCLAW – DEPARTURE

In the morning you will be transferred to the airport.
